Chinese health food industry is growing fast
BEIJING, May 17 () -- Chinese authorities announced a five-month crackdown on illegal products in the fast-growing health food industry. The campaign by the China Food and Drug Administration, which will run through September, will mainly target the illegal production, sales and advertising of health food products, isabel marant online, the China Daily reported Friday."Those caught with illegal activities in the industry will be severely punished," administration spokeswoman Yan Jiangying said. The crackdown will pay special attention to checking illegal additives and components in health foods."Problems in the health food market remain an issue in the country, parajumpers jacken outlet, and the campaign aims to restore order to the industry through exposing and punishing illegal activities related to health food products," she said.As of last year, there were more than 2,000 health food producers on the mainland whose total output totaled more than 280 billion yuan ($45.5 billion) worth of products, the administration said."The health food industry is growing fast, but some practitioners are pursuing financial interests at all costs, ignoring laws and regulations," Yan said. She said some companies illegally add drugs or other banned additives to health food items to boost their efficacy. The campaign is the first since the ministry-level administration was formed in March.Unlike previous efforts, the current campaign will involve lots of raids and public exposure, Yan said. The administration cited cracking a case in which a fake health food product with a wholesale price of 53.5 yuan was sold mainly to elderly people for nearly 1,500 yuan.Such products mainly target chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension, an official said.
