Twins demote SS Tsuyoshi Nishioka,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]

That decision doesn't look so hot after the Twins demoted Nishioka to Class AAA,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a decision announced Monday. The 27-year-old infielder from Japan has yet to show he can hit big-league pitching and struggled with simple defensive fundamentals. He broke his leg early last season in a second-base collision and appeared overmatched after his return. Only five of his 50 hits went for extra bases,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and they were all doubles.
"This has nothing to do with Hardy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said Twins general manager Terry Ryan,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who was in "retirement" when the club committed nearly $14.75 million (including the posting fee) to sign Nishioka to a three-year deal.
Well,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], that's what the GM said. If the Twins had not pursued Nishioka,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they would not have had any reason to trade Hardy. Remember Hardy had been a disappointment in his one season with the Twins,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], struggling with a wrist injury and hitting only six homers. Nishioka,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], meanwhile,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], had been a star in Japan,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], hitting .346 and scoring 121 runs in the season before he signed with the Twins.
All the Twins could get from the Orioles for Hardy were two minor-league pitchers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], utility infielder Brendan Harris and $500,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000.
"We make mistakes all the time,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Ryan said after announcing the decision. "You go out and evaluate,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], sometimes things don't work out the way you plan. When you go out and evaluate baseball players,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], not everyone is going to hit."
Ryan added that he doesn't view Nishioka's signing as a mistake,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], at least not yet. "We're going to see if he can get resurrected and get him back up here,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," Ryan said. "Right now we have to get him to regroup,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], get him to relax down there."
