Apple CEO says computers will be assembled at new Texas plant
CUPERTINO, Calif., May 22 () -- U.S. technology giant Apple's Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook said the company would build a factory in Texas to assemble Macintosh computers.Cook and Apple made bigger headlines this week after a congressional report Monday said Apple was exploiting gaps in international laws -- specifically U.S. and Irish tax laws -- to avoid paying taxes on billions of dollars of earnings. On Tuesday, Cook and Apple made headlines again as the CEO went to Washington to testify at a Senate hearing, hollister clearance, where he said Apple didn't use "gimmicks" to avoid paying taxes and paid every dollar in taxes it was legally obligated to pay.Almost lost in the hubbub, Cook also said that Apple planned to invest $100 million on a factory in Texas, hollister outlet, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday."The product will be assembled in Texas, include components made in Illinois and Florida, and rely on equipment produced in Kentucky and Michigan," Cook said.Apple had already announced that it would build a line of computers in the United States in 2013. But the company hadn't previously said where in the United States they would be built, the Times said.Still unknown by the public is when production will begin, the Times said.
