Mary Jane was born in Gladstone on Dec. 29, 1940 to John Edgar and Helen Wells Trimmer. She lived in South Branch for many years and resided in Ewing the last 33 years.
Mary Jane graduated from Somerville High School in 1958,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and earned a BA in education at Glassboro State College (now Rowan University),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and an MA in environmental studies/education from Montclair State College. She continued her academic pursuits throughout her life.
Mary Jane taught at Bridgewater schools for three years and at Three Bridges Elementary School in Readington Township for 35 years. She taught fourth-grade academics using many hands-on activities such as tapping maple trees, investigating rivers, identifying birds and bugs and exploring the wonderful world of Mother Nature. Her students recall her crazy hats,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], wacky Halloween costumes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], red sneakers, and great laugh. Ms. Trimmer's students learned life lessons in her unique classroom. Mary Jane was a Leader Teacher for Merck Co. at Readington Township schools for 10 years,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and received several awards for her environmental educational activities over the years.
In her quest to live life to the fullest,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Mary Jane pursued numerous activities. Audubon Society, the Washington Crossing Audubon Society, and was a naturalist at Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve. In 2006 she became a Master Gardener through the Mercer Country Extension.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], where she served in many capacities. She is fondly remembered by all the young women she mentored and taught life lessons while serving as director of the church's summer camp for many years. Mary Jane enjoyed life and gathered friends wherever she went. Anyone who crossed her path was influenced by her kind and generous spirit.
Surviving are two sisters, Elizabeth Fay of Florida, Constance Lucy of Colorado; and a niece,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Chanel Tyler; and many cousins. She will be greatly missed by her family,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], her many friends, the children she inspired,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and her two furry friends,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Walter and Sneakers.
Funeral services: Thursday,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], July 23 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Princeton with Bishop Phil Welch officiating. Burial: Union Grove Cemetery,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Gladstone. Arrangements were handled by Wilson-Apple Funeral Home,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Pennington.
