President sets up panel of Governors on agriculture sector,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
President Pratibha Devisingh Patil has constituted a Committee of Governors to recommend measures for enhancing productivity,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], profitability,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], sustainability and competitiveness in India agriculture sector with special reference to rain-fed area farming.
The Committee,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which will be headed by Shivraj Patil,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Governor of Punjab and Rajasthan,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], will focus on the need to formulate requisite policy initiatives,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], legislative measures and institutional reforms. The reforms might factor in the restructuring and convergence of schemes at a local level,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to integrate with the village economy and prospects for investment in agriculture and allied sectors.
The 12-member committee will also deliberate on measures for transfer of innovations and new cutting-edge technologies to the farm and allied sectors,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], steps to meet the emerging scenario of farm labour and farm mechanisation.
Increased participation of agriculture-related public sector undertakings,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], agriculture universities and research institutions both at the Central and state levels and farmer-industry partnerships will also be discussed by the Committee.
