Poll shows Lawrence Springborg leading Coalition resurgence,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
After 10 months of riding high under a new premier,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Labor has been stripped of its substantial lead in the face of a resurgent Coalition.
Read the Galaxy Poll results in detail Angst over an array of issues,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], particularly roads and public transport, has convinced many Queenslanders to abandon"Labor on the eve of the party's milestone of being a decade in power.
Voters appear willing to back the Lawrence Springborg-led alternative in the belief the looming merger of the Nationals and Liberals will make them more credible,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The result will send shockwaves through Labor at its annual conference this weekend on the Gold Coast with tensions already brewing over several imminent preselection battles,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
The Galaxy Poll,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], conducted exclusively for The Courier-Mail this week,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], found Labor's primary support had slumped to 43 per cent while combined backing for the Liberal/Nationals was 42 per cent.
This was a stark turnaround on the 52 per cent to 32 result recorded in February in the weeks after Mr Springborg,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who has made much of promoting himself in recent months under the nickname "the Borg",[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], was reinstated as Coalition leader at the expense of Jeff Seeney.
On a two-party preferred basis,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Labor leads the Coalition 52 per cent to 48 compared to 61 per cent to 39 four months ago.
While Ms Bligh still holds a significant lead as preferred premier,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], her support has dropped 10 per cent to 55.
Mr Springborg has surged to 32 per cent,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a good result for any opposition leader and well ahead of the 12 per cent recorded by Mr Seeney in January that led to his eventual ousting.
The Galaxy poll showed 23 per cent of Queenslanders were more likely to vote for the Conservatives if they merged into the proposed Liberal National Party, including 10 per cent of Labor's supporters.
Only 8 per cent were less likely to vote for the merged party while 68 per cent signalled the union would make no difference,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Mr Springborg was clearly favoured as leader of the Liberal Nationals with 52 per cent followed by his Nationals deputy Fiona Simpson and then Liberal leaders Mark McArdle and Tim Nicholls,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
In the six policy areas of health, water, education, law and order, roads and public transport, Labor has seen a decline of confidence in their ability to manage.
The Coalition improved in each category but only on the issue of health and public hospital were they ranked as high as Labor.
Voters believe congestion in southeast Queensland has significantly worsened in recent years and they predominantly hold the State Government responsible for delivering solutions,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
