No time to play race card Opinion
NOW I heard everything.
This week,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in the wake of the savage and violent death of Richard Saunders in a Logan City Park, the Aboriginal community has accused the Islander community of failing to assimilate.
In what way, exactly, have the Aboriginal people assimilated? Ever? Are these not the same people who live by their own rules, demand the right to punish their own by tribal law and refuse to live by man law same people who continue to hunt protected species of endangered animals and marine life as is their native right?
It been a couple of hundred years now, and the vast majority of their people haven exactly blended seamlessly into society,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or shown any intention of doing so.

Nevertheless, the allegation that rugby league star Johnathon Thurston uncle was murdered, by Pacific Islanders, has highlighted the racial tensions in Woodridge and Beenleigh and focused on the relationship between local Aborigines and the Pacific Island community according to the media. We do love racial tensions police initially said there was nothing to indicate that the crime was race related, but after the protests changed their tune,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they concede race have been a factor it wasn before, it is now because the Aboriginal community has been quick to react and leap aboard the bandwagon, brandishing their outrage as a media weapon.
About 150 indigenous people gathered outside court at the appearance of the accused,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], many of them jeering at their family and supporters. They called it a race war and the media lapped it up.
"These people are working in gangs and are murdering our people,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said Wayne Saunders,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the dead man brother.
Another supporter said: "If they want to bring it on, they just messed with the biggest gang in Australia."
Isn that mindset in itself a warning?
People who appear willing, if not anxious, to use Saunders death to further their own cause?
The death of Richard Saunders is a tragedy, but sadly his death threatens to be just an excuse for escalating violence.
Police on the streets blame the tensions if they exist, on age-old demons -- drugs and alcohol.
"If you took away the drugs and the alcohol there would be no racial tensions," said one Logan copper.
Anyone who happens to cross their path could become a victim -- a fact the family of Paul Markham lives with every day.
Paul was a white man beaten to death by a drunk black teenager -- another victim of alcohol-related violence.
On February 13,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 2005,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Bilinga concreter, sleeping off a big night on a park bench,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], was murdered for what the killer thought were a pair of expensive, white designer shoes. They were fake.
The killer also stole his watch and mobile phone and when he staggered to his feet Moses Rupert Katia,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], then 19, punched him in the head.
Paul died two days later when his life support was switched off.
Moses Katia,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a university student the court was told was of good character when sober, was black, but no one cried race war -- not even the media.
On May 18,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 2008: Fisherman Wharf Tavern,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Gold Coast. Patron Terii Tararo died following an altercation with security guards,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but there have been no protests or placard waving on the courthouse steps.
Nor have protesters suited up in case of Patron Ulisese Titoa,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who died on March 31, 2007 at the Meadowbrook Hotel, Loganlea, or of David Kai who died after being punched in the face during an altercation outside Blarney Irish Tavern, Logan Central. But no one played the race card, until now.
