He also took a very keen interest in local and national affairs. He was a well-respected neighbour and friend to many on the Castlebar Road.
Michael John had a very special interest in gardening. It was a pastime that he loved, and he carried it out in a most meticulous fashion. Whether it was mowing the grass or weeding the flowers, everything had to be done to perfection. He also wanted to make sure that everything looked well.
The same code of standards applied to himself and to social occasions. Weekend Masses were always events for which Michael John donned his best suit and shoes. It was a positive attitude he held right to the end of his life.
