LOS ANGELES, July 20 () -- The average cost of U.S. movie tickets rose 3.2 percent in the second quarter of 2013 from the same period in 2012, due to 3-D and Imax pricing, analysts said. The National Association of Theatre Owners released a report Friday saying the proliferation of higher-priced 3-D and Imax films -- including "Star Trek Into Darkness" and "Iron Man 3" -- drove the cost of tickets up in the three-month period ending in June. The average U.S. movie ticket price during that period was an all-time high $8.38, up from $7.94 in the first quarter of the year. That's a 5.5 percent increase, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.Theaters across the country had $1.29 billion in revenue during the second quarter, said Patrick Corcoran, a spokesman for the association. The average price of tickets for the first six months of the year was $8.16, the Times said.
