How you can cut costs with a price book,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
The costs whatsoever of these stores aren't equal, obviously. A few of the stores will have higher prices than others. Some stores possess a better selection than others.
Like a person with an active life, I'd rather not shop in a lot of different stores. I want to shop at the store which has the lowest prices on the items I purchase most of the time. Quite simply, where can I obtain the staples in the best price?
For that first many weeks, Sarah and that i shopped at different stores. On those trips, we took along our normal shopping list along with a "generic" shopping list.
The "generic" grocery list is just a list of 25 to 30 items that we buy regularly. Milk. Eggs. Bread. Shampoo. Orange juice. Bananas. Spinach. You know, things that show up awfully regularly on our grocery lists.
Once we shopped, we would look for the things on our "generic" shopping list and write down the price for that item. (We wouldn't combine it with our cart unless it had been on our real shopping list,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], of course.)
After many weeks of this,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we had several copies of our "generic" grocery list,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], one each from several different stores, and every listing the distinct prices available at that store. This constitutes our price book, and it helps us determine where to shop.
So, how do we utilize it? The very first thing we did was mark which store had the cheapest non-sale prices on the items we buy. For us, Fareway was the winner here in the most items, but there were individual items that were cheaper elsewhere.
Thus, more often than not,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we'll do our grocery shopping at Fareway. Due to this comparison, we know that our grocery receipt will probably be lower there than elsewhere.
Sometimes, though, there exists a grocery list with just a few staples onto it. If so,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I'll look into the price book and if there's a significant savings available elsewhere, I'll shop elsewhere.
More often than not,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], though,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we shop at Fareway for many things, visit Hy-Vee for a few esoteric items, and supplement that with the food co-op if we need other hard-to-find items. It's all about tha harsh truth, and our pricebook spells it out for us.
This post is a component of a yearlong series called "365 Ways to Live Cheap (Revisited),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," by which I'm revisiting the entries from my book "365 Ways to Live Cheap,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," that is available at Amazon and at bookstores everywhere.
