Ijebe-Ode will play host to an all-South American encounter on Wednesday 4 November, with Argentina and Colombia set to clash in the Round of 16 at Nigeria 2009. This will be the two sides' second meeting in the history of this competition, with continental pride and a place in the last eight at stake.
The game
Argentina-Colombia, Wednesday 4 November, Ijebu-Ode, 16.00 (local time)
The stakes
La Albiceleste touched down on Nigerian soil with [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] the firm intention of winning their first ever global U-17 title, and got off to an ideal start by becoming the first side to qualify from the group phase. Yet the 2-1 reverse in their final Group A game against the host nation has forced Jose Luis Brown's young charges to up sticks to Ijebu-Ode, where the coach is sure to re-deploy most of the first-choice players rested against Nigeria.
The Colombians, for their part, reached this stage by qualifying second behind Iran in Group C and will be determined to show more of the form that helped them finish ahead of both the Netherlands and Gambia in the first phase. Should they beat Argentina they would be one step closer to matching their best performance at this tournament: a last-four finish at Finland 2003.
The stat
1 - The number of previous meetings between Argentina and Colombia at the FIFA U-17 World Cup. On 30 [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] August 2003 in Finland, La Albiceleste beat Los Cafeteros 3-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw, thus taking third place at the showpiece event.
The words
"It'll be vital to stay focused for the entire 90 minutes against Colombia. They are a dangerous team, and [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] we've come up against them at a point of the competition where there's no margin for error. Whoever slips up will be heading for home and we don't want to go home until after the final." Jose Luis Brown, Argentina coach
"We're excited to have reached the second phase, which was our primary objective. But we must have an open mind as to what we can achieve, and that means going as far as [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] we can in this competition. We made mistakes against Gambia, but we trust they won't be repeated in the Round of 16." Ramiro Viafara, Colombia coach
